The Shields Township Assessor’s Office Purpose: To ensure fair and equitable assessments by identifying, inventorying, determining market values, and calculating assessed values of all township properties in accordance with Illinois state laws.
Employees: The Shields Township Assessor's Office consists of three full-time employees.
How to Submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request: The information you are seeking may likely already be available on this website or the Lake County website (www.lakecountyil.gov) and may not require you to submit a Freedom of Information Act Request.
If you would like to submit a FOIA request, please read the information below.
Methods to Request Information and Public Records: Please complete the FOIA Form Supervisor.pdf (available here or at the Shields Township Assessor’s Office) and mail, fax, e-mail, or hand-deliver it directly to the Shields Township Assessor’s FOIA Officer, Sarah Shepherd-Scantlin. Pursuant to 5ILCS 140/3/.1, the requester must state whether the requested documents will be used for commercial purposes. The requester will be notified as soon as the documents are available for inspection and/or copying.
Illinois state law does not require you to submit your request on a standard form, but the request needs to be in writing. The letter must include the information you are requesting, your name, address, date, and a daytime phone number so that the Shields Township Assessor’s office can contact you if there are any questions.
Copy Fees:
- First 50 letter/legal pages are free (black and white)
- 15 cents per page thereafter (black and white)
- For color or unusual size copies, the actual cost of copying will apply
