GENERAL ASSISTANCE
General Assistance Program's provide monthly financial assistance to low-income residents that help meet their basic living expenses and needs.
As of June 1, 2023. Shields Township has entered an Intergovernmental Agreement with Waukegan Township which allows for additional assistance to also help Shields Township patrons. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
Assistance may also be provided by a Township to alleviate life-threatening circumstances. As of June 1, 2023. Waukegan Township and Shields Township will share the case load with our Intergovernmental Agreement.
Residents experiencing financial hardship may apply for this assistance to pay for shelter, food, utilities, medical services or transportation. An individual may receive Emergency Assistance once in a 12-month period. Call Waukegan Township for more information at 847-244-4900. For urgent life-threatening emergencies, please call 9•1•1. |
HOME HEATING ASSISTANCE
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps senior citizens, lower-income families, the disabled, and individuals on fixed incomes to pay their natural gas and electric utility bills.
