Freedom of Information Act


Much of the information commonly requested is already publicly available on our website or on LakeCountyIL.gov, so you are encouraged to perform a couple of quick keyword searches before reaching out or initiating a formal Freedom of Information (FOIA) request. In accordance with Public Act 96-542, which took effect on January 1, 2010, Shields Township has designated FOIA Officers to handle requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act, shown below.

The purpose of Shields Township is to serve the local interests and concerns of its residents.

Employees:
The Shields Township Supervisor’s office and Assessor's office consists of two full-time employees.

Copy Fees:
  • First 50 pages are free (black and white)
  • 15 cents per page thereafter (black and white)
  • 30 cents per page (color)

Methods to Request Information and Public Records:

The Shields Township Supervisor’s office designates Lisette Rothing as the FOIA Officer. Requests for records shall be made in writing to the aforementioned person at 906 Muir Ave., Lake Bluff, IL 60044. Please complete the FOIA Request Form (available below and/or at the Shields Township Office).

​Pursuant to 5ILCS 140/3.1, the requestor must state whether the requested documents will be used for a commercial purpose. The requestor will be notified as soon as the documents are available for inspection and / or copying.​

To ensure fair and equitable assessments by identifying, inventorying, determining market values, and calculating assessed values of all township properties in accordance with Illinois state laws.

To maintain the unincorporated roads and rights-of-way within the road district.

Employees:
The Road District has one full-time employee.

Copy Fees:
  • First 50 pages are free (black and white)
  • 15 cents per page thereafter (black and white)
  • For color or unusual sized copies, the actual costs of copying will apply

Records Maintained:
  • Permits issued
  • Business records created in our office

​Methods to Request Information and Public Records:

Please complete the FOIA Request Form (available below and/or at the Shields Township Highway Department office) and mail, fax, or hand deliver to the attention of Rob Beake, Shields Township FOIA Officer.

​Pursuant to 5ILCS 140/3/.1, the requestor must state whether the requested documents will be used for commercial purposes. The requestor will be notified as soon as the documents are available for inspection and/or copying.

Illinois state law does not require you to submit your request on a standard form, but the request needs to be in writing. The letter must include the information you are requesting, your name, address, date, and daytime phone number so the Shields Township Highway Department can contact you if there are any questions.
