The six (6) week fall leaf collection program will run at the end of the annual yard waste season. It includes 6 Kraft branded paper bags or 50lb/4ft or less tied bundles of yard waste for free curb side pickup. No leaf bag stickers needed unless you go over your 6 free bags that week. This program will run from Wednesday October 25th through Wednesday November 29th. So make sure to put your bags out the Tuesday night before hand because LRS is prompt and will be starting their routes as early as 6am Wednesday mornings as usually scheduled.
Beginning November 30, 2022, LRS will be changing the pick-up day to Wednesday. Look for the sticker on your can this week.

Union Pacific North Line Tie Project Underway Union Pacific, which owns and maintains the three UP lines in the Metra system, will replace approximately 68,000 ties between Kenosha and the line’s Ravenswood Station in Chicago. To lessen impacts on the current train schedule as well as the communities along the line, work will occur between 7 PM and 5 AM seven days a week through November. Union Pacific believes that this schedule will allow the work to progress more quickly, lessening the impact to communities along the line.
“Tie replacement is essential and must be done at regular intervals to maintain track speeds and service levels,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Jim Derwinski. “We understand that track work during the evening overnight hours will affect the communities near the work zones and that any delays are an inconvenience for our riders. However, accelerating the work schedule and doing it during off-peak hours should minimize these impacts.” Metra riders may experience minor delays during the evening and some late-night train schedules may be adjusted as the work moves closer to Chicago. Communities along the tracks will experience increased noise levels, including train horns, during work periods. Federal law requires trains to sound their horns when entering a track work zone even if the work takes place in a community that is regulated as a quiet zone. Union Pacific believes that the accelerated work schedule will mean that each community should only experience direct impacts for two to three days as the project moves down the tracks. Track changes may occur as trains work around the track workers, and customers are advised to listen for platform announcements throughout the project to verify the boarding platform well in advance of a train’s arrival at their station. The project is expected to last through the end of November. For more information, visit Metra's website. By now most people have probably noticed the new smoke shop in the little "caboose" on Waukegan Road. Some people have contacted Shields Township and Lake County with concerns about signage, merchandise, or operations. Here is a response from Lake County Planning, Building and Development: Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the tobacco store at 211/207 N. Waukegan Road, Lake Bluff. Lake County Planning, Building and Development (PB&D), along with the Health Department and State’s Attorney’s Office, are actively examining the issues that have been identified and offer the following information in response.
Signage Per the standards of the Lake County, Illinois Code of Ordinances, all properties must comply with the established regulations for signs that pertain to the individual sign area, sign height, sign location, and the maximum total permitted sign area on a lot. However, except in limited circumstances, local governments are prohibited from regulating content; as such, the County’s standards are content-neutral. Further, the State of Illinois has no restrictions on advertising related to smoking, vaping, or CBD products. Sales of Certain Products The Lake County Health Department does not regulate CBD products. It is permissible to legally sell CBD oil without a special license in Illinois as long as the product is derived from hemp, contains under 0.3 percent THC, and is not infused into a food product. Kratom, another product being offered for sale at the property, is not regulated by Lake County nor prohibited under Illinois law. Site Operations At this time, staff have identified, through an on-site inspection, recent improvements that the business owner has made on the property that deviate from the plans approved during the building permit and site plan reviews. Please be aware that Lake County Planning and Code Enforcement staff is actively working to bring the site back into compliance and will take any and all actions needed to do so. We hope this helps provide clarification on the situation as it currently stands. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our respective departments with additional questions or concerns.
